The FMM Core Competencies

The FMM competencies are essentially the transferable tools that will enable Fellows to be personally effective as change agents and implementers.

Their competencies can be seen as the means through which other aspects of the Fellow's know-how and manufacturing/business skills can be successfully deployed in practice. The Assessment Centre looks for evidence that candidates have at least the makings of these competencies and a willingness to develop them further.

The Foundation Phase seeks to develop the Fellow’s understanding of these competencies, and the Industrial Phase develops them to at least the Baseline in actual Practice. To also have the potential to rise rapidly to senior management positions, each of these competencies will need to be developed to the Higher Level.

The seven competencies are:

  • Adaptability
  • Problem solving and decision-making
  • Drive
  • Leadership
  • Working with Others
  • Communication
  • Domain Knowledge
