This
is the most important stage of the programme; the results of
the Industrial Phase generate the real step changes in the fellows’
careers.
The Industrial Phase comprises of a twelve-month
assignment with a client company, these companies are predominately
manufacturing SME’s throughout the UK. However, these
days we are placing more fellows in the service sector, consultancy,
large multinationals (e.g. Airbus UK), and roles outside manufacturing
e.g. commercial, project management and construction etc.
The important element is that the assignment challenges the
fellow, and helps them to gain experience in areas which will
enhance their overall career progression. We focus very much
on transferable skills; this improves the ability to move
both across the industrial sector and between roles
There are benefits to both the host company and the
fellow from the Industrial Phase:
- The fellow is given the opportunity to show a potential
employer what they are capable of.
- In 75% of cases this leads to the opportunity to stay
with the company after the Industrial Phase.
- The host company see a return on their investment. In
the majority of cases this is many more times than the outlay.
- For both parties there is the opportunity to “try
before you buy”.
- The chance to try something for a year, make sure its
mutually beneficial before making a longer term commitment.
During this phase delegates will be supported from Cranfield
through regular visits from industrial tutors and by promoting
networking between their own peer group and the wider alumni
body.
We also hold 3, two-day workshops to provide additional academic
inputs and the opportunity to share their experiences with
others on their intakes via the presentations. |
